What's inside: 4 tabs
- START HERE
- The 3 steps, the colors and an "Is everything OK?" check.
- MY YEAR PLAN
- Up to 6 money in lines and 25 spending lines in 3 groups: needs, wants, and savings and debt. An "Every month" box, a box for each month, and totals for each month and the year. Tight months turn red.
- ACTUALS
- The same lines. What you really got and spent each month, the plan so far, and under or over plan for each line.
- YEAR AT A GLANCE
- All 12 months: money in, money out and left over, plan and actual, and the year so far. The tight months by name, totals by group and a chart of plan next to actual.
Made to be easy
- You type only in the yellow boxes. Example numbers show how it works.
- Same amount each month? Type it once in "Every month". The sheet uses it for all 12.
- One-off months are easy: car insurance in March, a trip in July, gifts in December.
- Tight months turn red: a month where your plan spends more than you get.
- Months over plan turn orange, so you see them first.
- Type the year in one box. Use it again in 2028.
- Orange "Check" words catch typos, like letters in a money box or two lines with the same name.

Questions people ask
How do I get the files?
This is a digital download. Nothing is shipped. After you pay on Etsy, download the files from your Etsy account (Purchases). Open the PDF guide first.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Use the free Google Sheets app. The guide has buttons to make your own copy, light or dark. It also works in Microsoft Excel 2010 or newer.
How is it different from the Monthly Budget Planner?
The Monthly Budget Planner plans one month in detail: each bill with its due day, every paycheck and your savings goals. This sheet plans the whole year by month, so you see the big months coming, like a trip in July or gifts in December.
What is a tight month?
A month where your plan spends more than you get. In the example, July has a $1,500 trip, so the plan for July is $750 short. That month turns red, and one line names it, so you can plan for it early.
Can I start in the middle of the year?
Yes. A month counts only when you type numbers for it in ACTUALS. Months you leave empty are not in the totals so far.
Can I use it again in 2028?
Yes. Type 2028 in the year box on MY YEAR PLAN, and clear the numbers in ACTUALS. Or make a new copy.
